Let me start out by explaining that sweaty palms is an actual medical problem and that you can either have primary or secondary palmar hyperhidrosis.

  • Primary hyperhidrosis is found to start during adolescence or even before and seems to be inherited as an autosomal dominant genetic trait.
  • Secondary hyperhidrosis, can start at any point in life. This may be due to a disorder of the thyroid or pituitary gland, diabetes mellitus, tumors, gout, menopause, certain drugs, or mercury poisoning.

Whatever the cause of your sweaty palms, it is an annoying and embarrassing problem.
Which leads us to the fact that many different forms of sweaty palms treatment are available.

Sweaty Palms Treatment

1.Topical Applications – antiperspirants

These are the simplest products and often the first line of products to be used by sufferers. For more severe cases they are sometimes not very effective in treating palmar hyperhidrosis.

2. Alternative Topical Remedies

Products in the form of wipes or containing some chemicals other than aluminium chloride. Examples of these are secure wipes, “Sweat-Stop”, PerspireX.

3. Oral Medications

These can be ordered by prescription (recommended) or over the Internet. These are often unreliable as they are not specifically for HH, but some people have success. These can have a lot of side effects that may make them unusable such as, significant memory deterioration.

4. Iontophoresis

This involves placeing the hands shallow trays filled with water, while a small electrical current is passed into metal plates and the water. After 5-10 initial treatments dryness can last up to 3 weeks in applied areas. This is extremely effective.

5. Botox (Underarms, less so for hands & feet)

The responses have been as long as 1 year, but in most cases the anhidrosis effect begins to weaken in 4 months. It is usually very expensive unless covered by insurance. It may be used on the hands but with less effect than the armpits. Injections in the hands and feet have been reported to be painful. Slight numbness of the thumb has been reported (caused by injection or diffusion of molecules into thenar muscle). This can account for a slight loss of grip.

6. ETS surgery
Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy. The last resort. This is a procedure that generates conflicting opinions due to a very diverse range of possible side effects. In general terms ETS does not offer a true cure for hyperhidrosis, but usually moves sweat from one area to another – referred to as reflex sweating.

Over all the best sweaty palms treatment is Iontophoresis.
